Assistant Mark McGhee also leaves his job. Scotland failed to qualify after the 2-2 draw against Slovenia on Sunday. “I would like to thank Gordon on behalf of the board. It was an excellent service to the national team”, said Scottish FA chief, Stewart Regan.

Gordon Strachan told in the interview: “I would like to thank the Board for letting me be at the position, all backroom staff and everyone in Scottish FA for huge help and continuous support. It was a great privilege”.

“I also disappointed at missing the play-off. We worked very hard. And the players should be given immense credit for the resilience which came back from a hard start. I want to thank each player who has represented Scotland”, added former coach.
