Schalke 04 were frustrated in their debut match of the domestic season as they narrowly lost by 1–0 margin at Frankfurt. It has been highlighted with the fact that Frankfurt were playing with 10 men for the final 20 minutes. And Schalke struggled throughout the game to break down the opposition defense and managed just three shots on goals. Now they need a mountain to climb in the game against Bayern, a team they had little success against since 2011.
Meantime, the crowned champions Bayern Munich started their Bundesliga title defense with a tremendous 6–0 trashing of Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena on the opening day of the 2016/17 season. Italian Boss Carlo Ancelotti, who was appointed as a replacement of the Spaniard Pep Guardiola this summer cannot wish for a better start to his new job after watching his side dominate in all areas.
