Julen Lopetegui has seen enough to be“convinced” that Gareth Bale will have an excellent season at Real Madrid after his superb display against AS Roma
Bale, 29, was in excellent form in the game against Roma at New Jersey went on to net the second goal of the game inside 15 minutes as Madrid took a 2-1 victory over their Italian opponents.
The Welsh man struggled to nail a place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven last season due to injury problems.
However, he looks set to feature prominently under new coach Lopetegui this season as Los Blancos begin life in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era.
“Nobody has to carry the weight of the squad. They have to be part of the team and give their best for the team,” Lopetegui said on the club website.
“That’s what Bale is doing; he’s a great player. I don’t like to compare players or talk about having to carry the weight of the team”.
“Nobody has to carry the team, but they give the best they have. It’s my way of watching football. He’s doing phenomenally well, and I’m convinced that he’ll have a great season”.
After losing the first game of their US tour against Manchester United, the 13-time European champions have bounced back strongly with wins over Juventus and Roma.
“The tour has been good and has helped us get up to pace. We’ve had to travel, but we’ve taken advantage of the time available to work and go through the preparation stages,” continued Lopetegui.

“The matches have been good, and we’ve also shaped and worked on the pace of those who arrived later. We had Vallejo’s injury, who has muscle tear that will set him back for a few weeks. Álvaro Odriozola had a problem today, but otherwise, everything is fine”.
Real will confront another Italian side, AC Milan on Saturday.
