Everton set to announce Bernard deal

Everton is close to concluding the deal for Brazilian player Bernard who is set to have a medical ahead of the deadline transfer

It will be seen as a coup for the Toffees if the deal goes through, considering the pursuit of some of Europe’s top clubs.

AC Milan and West Ham were all linked to the pacey winger and almost completed his signing, before Everton entered the frame on Sunday night.

Sky Sports News understands that Everton manager Marco Silva played a key role in persuading the Brazilian to join the Merseysiders.

The 25-year old attacking midfielder is currently in Merseyside for a medical before signing the deal – subject to a work permit being granted.

Bernard who started his club career back in his homeland with Atletico Mineiro has won 14 international caps for the Samba Boys. He signed a five-year deal with Shakhtar in the summer of 2013 for £40m.

He made his senior international debut in 2012 and was in the Brazil squads which won the 2013 Confederations Cup and reached the 2014 World Cup semi-finals on home soil.

He went on to win three League titles with the club, racking up a league and cup double in the past two seasons. Bernard can play as a left-sided or central attacker.
