Ousmane Dembele’s thunderbolt strike made the difference in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup
Sevilla was close to an upset when they took the lead via Pablo Sarabia who curled a shot beyond Marc-Andre ter Stegen with nine minutes on the clock, with VAR awarding the strike that was initially overruled for offside.
But Gerard Pique leveled from close range, and Ousmane Dembele then fired Barca into the lead with a screamer.
Sevilla had another opportunity to level from the spot, but French forward Wissam Ben Yedder missed the chance with a miserable penalty.
The Spanish Champions have taken part in nine of the last 10 Super Cups, but this was the first to take place over just one leg and in a foreign country.
Ernesto Valverde handed debuts to Clement Lenglet, Arthur, and Arturo Vidal as they sealed the Spanish Cup for the sixth time in nine years.
