Delhi Dynamos started their Indian Super League 2016 season with perhaps the most impressive result so far – a 3-1 road win against defending champions Chennaiyin – but failed in their second match, having played a goalless draw with Kerala Blasters. Delhi were at their fluid best in Chennai, as Marcelo Pereira was the main attacking treat from the wing, and created chance after chance for his partners while helping himself to two goals. However, they were equally as dour against a Kerala Blasters in what was their second consecutive away fixture to kick off the new season. Such inconsistency has been the main issue for Delhi in past years, too, preventing them from forging any kind of momentum. A victory at home against NorthEast would be a good start to their run of home fixtures.

Meanwhile, In 2014, NorthEast United were the cellar-dwellers of the league table, with just three victories throughout the campaign – a tally they have matched after just four games this season. In 2015, NorthEast United lost three of their opening four matches, conceding seven goals. This year, they have won three of their opening four matches, and are yet to concede from open play; a Diego Forlan’s spot-kcik goal is the only time their defence has been breached. NorthEast are still far from the ideal, but a solid defencive line, coupled with crafty tactics from the manager Nelo Vingada has made the side hard to defeat.
