The collapse of Chennaiyin FC in Hero Indian Super League of this edition has been nothing but spectacular. This side knew how they could grind out the result and had managed to defeat Bengaluru FC in their own field. By doing so they went on to win the ISL title in the last season. But they seemed to have forgotten the art.
Their 0-2 reverse in the game against Mumbai City FC was the 8th loss in 11 games. For the fans, who have followed them in the last season, this appeared like a terrible collapse. It is highly unlikely that they are going to make it to a playoff, leave winning the title.
Chennaiyin have 5 points and even they are able to win all the rest in a miraculous manner, they are going to climb by a maximum of 26 points. In regards to that, the 4th placed team has 30 points in the last season; the dream of playoffs doesn’t look like it is going to become the reality.
John Gregory, the coach has said that he feels largely disappointed for the people who are associated with the club. He says that he is hurt and disappointed instead of being under pressure. He feels hurt facing this after having spent amazing 12 months before September of 2018. However, he knows that this is what comes with the job.
Gregory has been left wondering like the fans as to why the team hasn’t been able to get anything right.
