Tough meeting between Chelsea & Atletico Madrid comes to an end with victory of other Spanish club by 3–1. Spanish forward Fernando Torres scored the opening foal for the home side in 36th minute of first half. The visitors fought back with an impressive goal from Adrian Lopez and then put the tie out of reach in the second half. Just before one minute of first half, the visitors scored the equalizer in 44th minute. First half of second leg semi final ended with 1–1 at Stamford Bridge.
Goal conceded by Atleti was the first in seven games and they trailed for only six minutes. Former Chelsea player Tigo played a diagonal pass to the far post which Juanfran kept alive. Both John Terry & Cole were unable to clear and Adrian took full advantage.
In second half, goal from Diego Costa who scored with Penalty & another from Arda Turan showed no mercy for home side. David Luiz sent a header against the upright at the other end but when Juanfran reprised his earlier assist, Arda first headed against the bar before tucking away the rebound. Game, set and match as Atletico qualified for the final of champions league first time in history.
After the match Atleti manager said “We did everything within our power to get through to the final and we deserve to be there. We had to work so hard to get the goals we needed. Tonight was the consequence of a big collective effort.”
While Jose Mourinho said “The Atletico goalkeeper makes an impossible save from a John Terry header then the penalty kills the game. Semi finals and important matches are decided by details and this was a very important detail.”
Both Madrid teams will now play final of this season champions league on 24th May 2014 in Lisbon, Portugal.
