Chelsea closing in on Athletico Bilbao’s Kaspa

Chelsea are in advanced talks to wrap up a deal for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to Sky sources.

The Blues might break the world-record fee for a ‘keeper if they seal the deal for the 23-year-old Spanish international valued at £71.6m.

Chelsea wants to conclude the signing before their season-opener against Huddersfield on Saturday. The plan is to include the shot-stopper in the matchday squad.

Kepa emerged as a new target for the Londoners as they look to find a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who is set to join Real Madrid.

Other options for Chelsea are Diego Rico and Stoke’s Jack Butland, but it seems they might settle for Kepa.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have offered Chelsea Matteo Kovacic on loan as part of the Courtois deal in a bid to finalize the move on time.

Butland remains an attractive deal because its much lower cost – around £30m – while sources have told Sky Sports News that Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s top choice is Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, but he would cost his £89m release clause.
