Carlo Ancelotti appointed as new Napoli manager

With the appointment of new managers making the headlines this week, SSC Napoli becomes the latest club to announce the signing of a new boss as they confirm Carlo Ancelotti will replace Mauricio Sarri.

The Serie A runners-up wrote on their official website “SSC Napoli is delighted to announce that an agreement has been reached with Carlo Ancelotti for him to become the head coach of the first team for three seasons starting in 2018-19”.

The former Madrid man lost his job as Bayern Munich boss earlier this season due to the poor run of results. He was linked to so many job offers across Europe including the vacant position at Arsenal, but the widely traveled manager decided to make a return to Serie A.

Carletto as he is widely known last managed an Italian side( AC Milan) in 2009 before deciding to move to the Premier League where he guided Chelsea to a Cup double in his debut season followed by stints in PSG, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Reports in Italy confirmed the 58-year-old turned down lots of offers before taking the Napoli role. He held talks with Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Rome last week before replacing Mauricio Sarri, whose departure was confirmed on Wednesday.

Sarri has recently been linked to replace compatriot Mancini at Zenit St Petersburg and also in contention to take over Antonio Conte’s position if he leaves Chelsea.

The signing of Ancelotti is a massive statement of intent for the Naples side who are keen on dislodging rivals Juventus in the League and equally mount a serious challenge in the European scene.
