Carlos Vinicius has agreed to move to Hotspur Stadium on loan, Benfica have confirmed. Vinicius’ arrival means that Tottenham will finally have another striker to reduce the burden on Harry Kane. The Brazilian forward joined Benfica not very long ago, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Monaco and Rio Ave from Napoli. However, he enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 24 goals in all matches. Tottenham will spend £2.7 million to secure the move, with the contract including an option to purchase Vinicius for a total price of £40.9 million next year. The 25-year-old is the second footballer Spurs have signed from Benfica since Jose Mourinho was appointed manager, with Gedson Fernandes now partway through a loan. Vinicius will be Tottenham’s sixth signing this transfer window, following in the footsteps of Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon, and, of course, Gareth Bale.
