Finally we have got the first Indian football player who scored the first goal in Indian Super League in the form of Balwant Singh. The 27 year old footballer scored the opening goal in 4th match of first season of ISL against FC Goa at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. Till 31st minute both teams were looking for the opening goal, but in thirty second minute, Balwant Singh scored the opening goal of the game and took the lead. His teammate Elano scored the second goal with free kick in first half.q

Balwant Singh registered his name in the history of Indian Super League for ever after scoring the opening goal against FC Goa. In 32nd minute, Singh struck the ball & it went straight to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper tried to block the shot, but it was his bad luck that the ball crossed the line after deflection from the goalkeeper. The match went to a 2–1 victory for the Chennaiyin FC with second goal from Elano.
Born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, who also played on other Indian Football competition i.e. I‑League. He begun his footballing career with you club Mahilpur football club. JCT was the first ever professional club of Balwant Singh for which he played from 2008 to 2011.
Singh made his club international debut with Salgaocar on 21st of March 2012 against Neftchi FC during the 2012 AFC Cup which he came on as a 79th minute substitute for Francis Fernandes as Salgaocar drew the match 2–2. Later he played for other I‑league club which includes Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan.
He made the international debut for India B on 17 February 2010 against Kyrgyzstan in first match of 2010 AFC Challenge Cup. In same year, he made his debut for India U‑23 level when India took part in the 2010 Asian Games.
