Atletico Madrid beat European Champions Real Madrid 4-2 in a thrilling encounter in Tallin to win their third UEFA Super Cup trophy
Diego Costa powered the Europa League winners to the lead after just 49 seconds of the game with a powerful strike from an acute angle. Los Blancos were back on level terms in the 27th minute of the game when a beautiful cross from Bale met Benzema’s header from close range.
Madrid regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Sergio Ramos expertly converted from the spot after a handball from Juanfran. However, Simeone’s men had other ideas as they restored parity 11 minutes from time thanks to Costa who tapped into an empty following a low cross from substitute Correa.
Atletico turned it around in extra-time with two World class goals from Saul(98) and Koke(104) making Julen Lopetegui the first Madrid manager since Michel(1948) to concede four goals in their first competitive game.
Diego Simeone was missing from the bench as he served his touchline ban. The Argentine gaffer will be proud of his boys especially Diego Costa who was the Man of the match and record breaker for the fastest goal in the competition (49 secs).
Real Madrid will kick off their La Liga campaign against Getafe on Sunday, while Atletico will square up against Valencia on Monday night
