Atletico de Kolkata remain the only udefeated side in the 2016 Indian Super League season, but they came away with a scrappy 1–0 victory against Delhi Dynamos despite getting outplayed for a majority of the match. Atletico’s defender Henrique Sereno was sent off for a foul that gave Dynamos a spot-kick opportunity, but Marcelo Pereira directed the ball over the bar, and then Kolkata got a penalty of their own from the counter-atack. This time the forward Iain Hume made no blunder, taking him clear of Stiven Mendoza at the top of the all-time scoring rankt in Indian Super League history. The 2014 champions have been solid without being spectacular, and would want to seize the initiative against an inconsistent Mumbai City team before embarking on a streak of three weeks without a single home fixture. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC are undergoing a massive downgrade in preformance not unfamiliar to those who have followed their previous seasons. It was Atletico de Kolkata who halted their three-match winning streak carried over from previous season with an entertaining stalemate on October 11. That spell had begun in December 2015 when a Sony Norde double complemented a Sunil Chhetri strike to hand Mumbai their first away win in ISL history against Kolkata. Repeating history would be difficult for Mumbai City, not least because Chhetri is missing due to his AFC Cup commitments, and head coach Alexandre Guimaraes saw a number of his key players leave the field with injuries in their previous game, a 1–0 home loss to FC Goa.
