Liverpool FC are closing in on a deal for Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson Becker as they are set to wrap up negotiations with Serie A side Roma.
Reports from Italy suggest the Reds have made a bid believed to be around £66.8m in what will become a record signing fee for a goalkeeper in the history of the game.
They also report that Alisson will not travel with Roma’s squad for their pre-season tour in the United States. The Merseyside club made attempts to sign the goalkeeper in the past, but their offers were rebuffed.
Klopp has struggled to resolve issues at the goalkeeping department with the likes of Simon Mignolet, and Loris Karius all rotated in that position. Unfortunately, costly mistakes had resulted in criticism from fans notably in the Champions League final when Karius made a howler that cost them the title.
Alisson, 25, enjoyed a brilliant season with Italian giants Roma last season, the goalkeeper who is 6t 3in tall kept an incredible 22 clean sheets in 49 appearances across all competitions. He is equally comfortable with the ball at his feet, and his physique looks cut out for the Premier League.
The Brazilian number 1 played a significant role in the country’s participation at the 2018 World Cup in Russia but were knocked out by the Belgians in the Quarter-final.
