In fourteenth minute, Landon has disappointingly refused to go out like Zidane and plant a headbutt on any of his opponents. First corner of the game was given in 19th minute. No one from either teams can pick it out and the Revs eventually clear. Chris Lindon said “I have to admit that I was terrified when I heard that LD was retiring. I’m pretty relieved it turns out it’s Landon Donovan and not Larry David.” First half ended without any score from both sides.

Los Galacticos finally scored the opening at the hand of Zardes in fiftieth minute. Zardes was six yards out and hits it across the keeper and into the net. The Revs have a promising foray into the Galaxy half but Bunbury’s good work comes to nothing. Apart from that shot from distance in the first half they have not troubled Penedo in the slightest.
Tierney scored the equalizer in 79th minute after Mullins cross. He shoots across Penedo, who gets a hand to the ball but can’t stop it crossing the line. Hopes of wining the first ever title of MLS Cup gets alive among the Revs, but the game was not completed yet.

Second half ended at 1–1 score and extra time of 30 minute given. Four times champions of this competition were looking more aggressive. They boosted their attack. It was a long ball up to Keane, he cuts in, collects and slides the ball past Shuttle worth. Gordon and Jones are booked as they argue about metaphysics. That was the winning goal of the game.
NE Revs hails Landon Donovan for his brilliant career at the California’s club. Defender Chris Tierney said “All these other story lines around the game, we are not really focused on. Personally, I have full respect for Landon, what an amazing career he’s had and done so much for this league. That’s all stuff that we can talk about after the game.”
