Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign began on Wednesday but not the way they wanted as a sold out Wembley witnessed Spurs lose 2-1 to French side Monaco. The visiting team went two goals up in the first half an hour, and despite centre-back Toby Alderweireld reduced the deficit for the hosts they couldn’t find the vital equaliser. The loss to Monaco was also Spurs’ first defeat of the season, with 1-1 draws against Everton and Liverpool coming either side of a win at home to Crystal Palace and before their trashing of Stoke last weekend. This leaves Tottenham Hotspur 5th in the Premier League table at this early stage of the season, but they will have to up their game a lot if they want to be among contenders for the title again. As regards team news, Danny Rose is likely to miss out on Sunday with a hamstring injury, but apart from that Tottenham Hotspur are injury free.
Meanwhile, David Moyes’ Sunderland are not in the good shape yet. They have managed to find the net in four of their five competitive games this season though, and away from home they have a good record going forward. They have scored in 15 of their last 16 away days in the Premier League, with 11 of those games seeing at least three scored in total. As for injuries, Sunderland are hoping that Stephen Pienaar, Lee Cattermole, and Billy Jones will be fit to take part on Sunday. Victor Anichebe is sidelined though, whilst Fabio Borini, Vito Mannone, and Seb Larsson face longer spells on the sidelines.
