The morale will be high in the camp of NorthEast United FC as the team have won Kerala Blasters 1-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) season three debut tie. A Katsumi Yusa second half goal was enough to earn three points for the Highanders. However, as head coach Nelo Vingada rightly acknowledged, their team was far from their best. Subrata Paul, the experienced goalkeeper was not confident at the back. He could have easily gifted two goals to the opponents thanks to his over enthusiasm to come off his line. Reagan Singh didn’t have the best performance either and it’s likely that Nirmal Chettri will be given a chance. Robin Gurung faces competition from Shouvik Ghosh but the former will still get the nod. Gustavo Lacazetti and Mailson Alves provide solidity at the defence. NorthEast United’s midfield will see Rowllin Borges start in the middle of the park. Star signing midfielder Didier Zokora could start alongside him if deemed fit, else his compatriot Romaric would once again be named in the starting eleven. Upfront Emiliano Alfaro, who doesn’t look the fittest player by far, and the lively Nicolaz Velez will shoulder the responsibility to provide goals. Robert Cullen could be among the substitutes for this tie. The team would have had just one training session since the win over the Blasters and how Vingada plots Goa’s downfall remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the visiting side FC Goa have a lot of injury problems. Robin Singh recently joined the injury list by limping out of the training session. Luciano Sabrosa is surely out of contention along with Denzil Franco and Subhasish Row Chowdhury. Gregory Arnolin too hasn’t been training with the first squad. The good news is that Raju Gaekwad has recovered from a knock in training. The Goan side has had to cancel practice fixtures against India Under-19 and DSK Shivajians owing to poor condition of the Nagoa stadium in Verna. Goa could possibly sign a foreign goalkeeper in the coming days as they only have Kattimani and youngster Sukhdev Patil who are fit for the ISL’s opening round of games. Laxmikant Kattimani should start in between the sticks while star signing Brazilian central defender Lucio shall partner Rafael Dumas and either of Raju or Keenan Almeida expected to start. Mandar Rao Dessai and Romeo Fernandes could be used as wing-backs. Pratesh Shirodkar and the holding midfielder Richarlyson Barbosa could slot into the midfield. Jofre Mateu will be placed behind the two forwards, Reinaldo and Rafael Coelho. Julio Cesar will be a useful option as the subsitute to call for as the 36-year-old midfielder is a free-kick guru. Will head coach Vingada inspire his team to play much better against the team from Konkan state or shall FC Goa continue their dominance over the north-eastern team?
